Challenges

Construction of linear objects and surrounding infrastructure traditionally has the challenges of delivering projects on time and on budget on the one hand. On the other hand, high risks that «something will go off plan», tasks of rapid mobilization of equipment and personnel, work with subcontracting.

Collecting operational information along the construction on a daily basis – is critically important to control the process and timely make management decisions. At the time of project implementation all information was collected from various sites and foremen in the form of scattered files, for example:

  • General works log
  • KS6 log
  • Plan/actual on pile installation
  • Plan/actual on pier installation
  • Sand and crushed stone delivery
  • Volumes of preparatory works performed
  • etc

At the same time, files changed along the project's progress and changes in the type of work performed.

There were more than 40 such reports per day and the formation of a «unified picture» based on them, as well as comparison with the project's general plan required a lot of time and led to delays in making management impacts.

Solution

Company ARBC emphasized the process of consolidation and bringing together of all operational reports into a unified system of Production Logs and the subsequent formation of management dashboards for assessing the project implementation progress.

Employees simply «dragged» files into the Production Logs system, which subsequently independently:

  • analyzed the structure of the operational report
  • «distributed» data across various logs, if necessary creating new ones or supplementing existing logs
  • Formed a set of necessary dashboards according to user requests

Results

Reduction of time for preparing summary reporting up to 80%

The time for bringing together operational information and preparing reports for management has been reduced up to 80% while significantly improving the quality of prepared reports

Improving the quality of decisions and operational meetings held

However good the dashboard may be, during discussions additional questions may still arise that require additional analysis to obtain an answer.

Thanks to the «conversation» with reports function – answers to such questions can be obtained right during meetings. The system online makes queries to the data and tries to find the answer to additional questions.
